PURPOSE

To promote awareness of the many uses of alpaca fiber; educate members on alpaca fiber usage through workshops and classes; and work toward alpaca as a commercially viable end product.

GOALS

  1. Fiber education for our membership by providing seminars on:
  • Preparation of fiber for the finished product (shearing, skirting, finishing methods—yarn, felt, etc.);
  • Plugging into the fiber market (hand-spinners, artisans, retail) and incorporate a focus of staying ahead of the market changes.
  • Training for artisans in weaving, felting, dyeing, spinning, knitting, etc.  We have a tremendously talented pool of artisans within our membership; let’s share that knowledge!

    Education will be offered at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

    1. Information on processing fiber to our membership by providing:  Resource information on mills, guilds, hand-spinners, artisans, etc.
    2. Information about the many uses of alpaca to the general public by:  Enticing public to come to our shows with a Fiber Fiesta, and our bi-annual Fiber Arts Competitions.

    3. Providing our membership with ways to sell their farm products by:  Having a booth for membership at County Fairs and at the Estes Park Wool Market.
    4. Holding an Annual Holiday Boutique.
